Learningscenario

Nature-based solutions for Climate mitigation and adaptation

In this Learning Scenario, students will explore the following nature-based solutions (NBS): a school vegetable garden that will reduce greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and provide food and plants that improve students’ health and wellbeing and a green network of schools to foster student participation and action at a local level. This Learning Scenario was developed as part of the Integrating Nature-Based Solutions in Education project, funded by the European Commission Directorate-General for Research and Innovation and coordinated by PPMI, in collaboration with European Schoolnet (EUN).

This project consists of a researcher group and involves PhD and Master's projects. Its goal is to: 1) Develop an in-depth understanding of the complex and multi-faceted system involved in land use changes affecting biodiversity. 2) Suggest solutions for how to quantify costs of land use changes, be it biodiversity or societal costs, that provides managers, corporations and stakeholders with tools for how to assess and implement costs of land use change into planning and decision-making processes. 3) Propose solutions for how to compensate e.g. through ecosystem restoration, which will provide a roadmap for a transformation towards sustainable land use that embraces multiple SDG.
