Is your school committed to integrating nature-based solutions (NBS) into teaching and learning? Boost your STEM impact on a sustainable future by earning the NBS School Expertise, powered by NBS EduWORLD and the Scientix STEM School Label.

With this recognition, your school will join the NBS EduWORLD EduHub, an exclusive network of schools supporting NBS in education. Your school will appear on an interactive map, and your NBS-related School Practice Evidence (SPEs) will be showcased globally. Your achievements will also be promoted on NBS EduWORLD and STEM School Label social media, positioning your school as a leader in NBS education.

Obtaining the NBS School Expertise brings recognition through an exclusive certificate, international visibility in an online repository and on social media, and showcases your school’s achievements globally. This recognition connects your school with an international network of innovative educators, and offers invitations to future NBS EduWORLD events, providing opportunities to shape the future of NBS education.

How to get the NBS School Expertise

If you're interested in integrating Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) into your school’s STEM activities, obtaining the NBS School Expertise is a great way to showcase your efforts. Here's a guide on how your school can become recognised as an NBS leader in education.

Step 1: Get Your STEM School Label

To apply for the NBS School Expertise, your school must first hold a valid STEM School Label. The STEM School Label, awarded at three levels—Competent, Proficient, or Expert—recognises schools for their strategic approach to STEM education. By earning this label, your school will join a vibrant international community of over 1,000 like-minded STEM-focused schools.

The first step toward this goal is developing and implementing a comprehensive STEM strategy. Once you obtain your STEM School Label, you can begin showcasing your school's STEM activities through School Practice Evidence (SPE) and Case Studies linked to the 21 STEM Strategy Criteria.

Step 2: Share Your Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) Activities

Once your school has received its STEM School Label, it’s time to share your activities! Start by submitting SPEs through your school’s profile on the STEM School Label platform. Your SPEs will be visible in your School Practice Evidence gallery.

If your school is already incorporating NBS into its STEM activities, these can be highlighted in your SPEs. After publishing at least three SPEs featuring NBS-related activities, you’ll be eligible to apply for the NBS School Expertise.

Step 3: Apply for the NBS School Expertise

To apply, simply fill in the NBS School Expertise Application Form and include links to at least three published NBS-related SPEs from your school’s gallery. Once submitted, the NBS EduWORLD team will review your application based on specific evaluation criteria. Good luck!

Step 4: Await Your Result

After your application is reviewed, you’ll receive an email with the outcome within ten working days.

If your school is successful, congratulations—you’ve earned the NBS School Expertise! Your school will be featured on the NBS EduWORLD website and an interactive map showcasing schools with NBS expertise. Your SPEs will be promoted as best-practice examples for other educators, and you’ll receive a certificate recognizing your school’s commitment to NBS in education. Celebrate your achievement by posting on social media! Tag @NBS_EDUWORLD, @STEM_Label, and use #NBSSchoolExpertise to spread the word.

If not successful, don’t worry—feedback will be provided to help improve your school’s NBS engagement, and you can reapply once new NBS SPEs are ready.
