Turn the bees back to work! Protect them to enhance biodiversity!

Climate change poses an existential threat, demanding urgent action. Its effects reverberate across various sectors, including agriculture. Farmers and farm workers grapple with the fragility of ecosystems, impacting food security. Beekeepers, too, face challenges due to declining bee populations. Bees play a crucial role in pollination, fostering diversity and stronger plant growth. However, their decline jeopardizes agriculture, economies, and the environment. The project described in this Learning Scenario aims to address these challenges by promoting resilient and sustainable agriculture. Collaborating with the Department of Agriculture and Forestry and the Department of Greening Environment in the Municipality of Patos, the school (Gjimnazi Zhani Ciko, Albania) is committed to combat climate change and biodiversity loss. Our initiative includes gender-inclusive beekeeping, lightweight bamboo hives, and cultivating Spirulina, considered a future bee food source.
