Enhancing NBS Integration: A Series of Transformative Workshops

The NBS EduWORLD initiative has launched a series of internal workshops designed to promote context-specific strategies, enhance mutual understanding and establish robust frameworks for collaborative knowledge sharing. These workshops aim to refine the integration of nature-based solutions (NBS) in different educational settings and involve the three different groups of partners: NBS demonstrators with an educational component in the implementation phase or already terminated (Tier-1 partners), partners developing educational activities around NBS (Tier-2 partners), and NBS exemplars (Tier-3 partners).

Objectives and Structure

The workshops are strategically structured to support peer-to-peer learning exchanges tailored to urban, coastal and rural contexts. By understanding local contexts, needs, gaps, opportunities and expertise, the workshops aim to strengthen cross-collaboration between the different partner groups. This collaborative effort aims to define and streamline NBS education activities and implementation across Europe.

Progress in 2023

In 2023, four of ten planned workshops were successfully held. These workshops, inspired by the UrbanByNature (UbN) programme, covered critical issues such as needs and experiences, policies, stakeholder engagement and living labs. The workshops were organised in collaboration with several consortium partners and targeted all NBS EduWORLD partners, with a special focus on the Tier-1 and Tier-2 partners. The main objectives were to support ongoing activities, plan future initiatives, share knowledge, identify needs and challenges, explore opportunities for NBS implementation and facilitate peer-to-peer interactions across different regions.

Upcoming workshops

The next workshop will take place on 25 June 2024, from 2 to 4pm (CEST), and introduce the NBS exemplars to the other two Tier-partner groups. This workshop will familiarise partners with the UbN programme and co-create content for the remaining four workshops, which are scheduled for the end of 2024. The agendas for these discussions will be developed based on the outcomes of the workshop in June 2024. They will build on the progress made and ensure that each group is equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively implement NBS education activities.
