Join the NBS EduWORLD Hackathon: Unleashing Nature-Based Solutions for climate and biodiversity

NBS EduWORLD is inviting students from universities across Europe to participate in the upcoming NBS EduWORLD Hackathon, a pioneering two-day event taking place online on 21 and 22 March 2024. Supported by the European Union's Horizon Europe project NBS EduWORLD, this hackathon is dedicated to exploring Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) aimed at combating climate change and biodiversity loss.

Participants will delve into real-world environmental challenges through three distinct case studies set in the City of Belgrade, the City of Genoa, and the Biosphere Reserve area of Moldova. Through a unique virtual game format, attendees will navigate these case studies, gaining invaluable insights into the importance of NBS in addressing pressing environmental issues.

Why participate?

  1. Project showcase: Participants will develop innovative solutions to mitigate environmental challenges identified in the case studies. A jury will select three winning projects, which will be featured on the NBS EduWORLD and UrbanByNature Programme’s resource platforms, granting visibility to a wide audience of practitioners in the field.
  2. Networking and learning opportunities: Four individuals from each winning group will receive funding to attend the NetworkNature annual event on 24-25 September 2024 in Brussels. Here, they will have the chance to deepen their understanding of NBS and network with leading experts in the field.
  3. Interdisciplinary collaboration: The hackathon welcomes students from diverse academic backgrounds, including but not limited to biology, environmental science, political science, urbanism, architecture, IT and digital, agronomy, ecology, civil engineering, earth sciences, and physics. Embracing a holistic approach, the event encourages collaboration between different disciplines to tackle complex environmental challenges effectively.

Who can participate? How to apply?

From bachelor to PhD levels, students enrolled in university programmes across Europe are encouraged to join this inspiring event. However, due to capacity limitations, only 50 to 60 participants can be accommodated. Priority will be given to 3rd year, Master, and PhD students. Fluency in English is a prerequisite for participation.
