NBS EduWORLD Summer School 2025
29 June - 4 July 2025
Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) have the potential to tackle some of the most pressing challenges of our time, such as biodiversity loss or air pollution, whilst providing social and economic benefits. Educating students on the value of NBS is key to building a greener and better future for all. Teachers and school leaders play a central role in the provision of high-quality education for all learners and without involving and committing these professionals, no educational intervention will succeed.
If teachers and students are informed and active, they can contribute effectively to the crises. By seeking solutions to everyday problems and challenges through the study of nature and the ways it has found to solve them, by discussing and designing nature-based interventions inside and outside the school building with the participation of parents and external stakeholders, the school becomes a living lab of knowledge and production of meaningful solutions and an “accelerator” of pro-environmental behavior, both for the school community and the local community.
In this framework, the NBS EduWORLD project is organizing the 2nd International Professional Development Course, part of the NBS EduWORLD Academy, from 29th June to 4th July 2025, for the school heads and teachers of both primary and secondary schools to:
- Investigate the Whole School Approach as a pathway for integrating NBS in school.
- Understand the living lab methodology under the framework of open schooling.
- Learn about NBS good practices and initiatives.
- Explore practical examples and inquiry-based activities for rethinking STEM education in the context of environmental challenges.
- Find techniques to integrate NBS into the curriculum and to different disciplines.
- Examine the links between non-formal/informal learning opportunities and the formal curriculum.
- Comprehend the knowledge, skills, and attitudes students need for the green transition.
- Develop their ‘School as NBS Living Lab’ action plan.
