Partnership for 21st Century Learning Frameworks & Resources

The P21 Framework for 21st Century Learning, developed with input from educators and business leaders, outlines the skills and support systems students need to succeed in work, life and citizenship. It is widely used by schools to focus on 21st century skills.

Mastery of key subjects such as English, world languages, the arts, mathematics, science, geography, history and citizenship is essential. In addition, the integration of interdisciplinary 21st century themes such as global awareness, financial literacy, citizenship, health and environmental literacy enhances students' understanding. To thrive in today's complex world, students need to develop learning and innovation skills, including creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration. In a technology-driven environment, they need information literacy, media literacy and ICT literacy. To succeed in life and work, students need to cultivate life and career skills such as flexibility, initiative, social skills, productivity and leadership. By integrating these elements, the P21 framework helps to engage students deeply and prepare them for a networked, digital world.
