The Great Green Roof Challenge
In this Learning Scenario, students explore climate change and the impact of nature-based solutions (NBS) by designing and constructing green roof models for a local community center. Through this hands-on project, they investigate the numerous benefits of green roofs as an example of nature-based solutions. Students gather ideas and design models to demonstrate how transforming a community center with a green roof can mitigate the effects of climate change. They then test their models to measure temperature differences between green roofs and traditional roofs, showcasing the effectiveness of this NBS. By doing so, students not only develop STEM skills but also enhance their environmental awareness.
