Empowering Nature-based Solutions in Education: Meet our Peripheral NBS EduSystems

NBS EduWORLD is proud to work with an inspiring group of Peripheral NBS EduSystems dedicated to promoting nature-based solutions (NBS) in education. These organisations bring unique expertise and a shared commitment to sustainability, working together to improve urban resilience and community engagement. Here's a closer look at our collaborating organisations and their contributions:

BURST, Hungary

BURST is a non-profit research organisation focused on developing smart solutions to contemporary urban challenges. As co-founders of the Hungarian NetworkNature Hub for Nature-based Solutions, BURST aims to raise awareness and build capacity of local authorities. Through NBS EduWORLD, they plan to engage stakeholders from a selected Hungarian city and landscape architecture students in co-design exercises to identify neighbourhoods suitable for implementing NBS for stormwater management. This initiative will provide valuable training materials and facilitate workshops to help bridge the gap between students and municipal professionals.

Ege University, Turkey

Founded in 1956 in Izmir, Turkey, Ege University is committed to integrating NBS into agricultural education. The university focuses on training future agricultural engineers by developing educational modules that inform farmers about sustainable practices. Through NBS EduWORLD, they aim to create ideal adult education modules that incorporate NBS information and practical training for students in the agricultural faculty, ensuring that future generations are equipped to implement these solutions in their communities.

Municipality of Lykovrysi-Pefki, Greece

Located in the north of Athens, the Municipality of Lykovrysi-Pefki is committed to improving environmental sustainability through community engagement. Their participation in NBS EduWORLD allows them to expand their capacity to implement NBS by developing educational programmes that involve local schools, parents and residents. Their plan includes conducting workshops and activities in schools to promote tree planting and intergenerational learning, creating a community committed to environmental stewardship.

Technical University of Civil Engineering, Romania

Led by Diana Lemian, the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest focuses on promoting environmental sustainability in urban development. As a peripheral NBS EduSystem, they aim to spread knowledge about NBS through the production of information booklets and engaging events such as workshops tailored to different age groups. These activities are designed to raise awareness and encourage community participation in sustainable practices, making the transition to a greener urban environment a collective effort.

Zaragoza City Council, Spain

Zaragoza City Council serves a population of 700,000 and is committed to sustainable urban development. Their involvement in NBS EduWORLD is in line with their Schoolyard Naturalisation Initiative, where they plan to implement a pilot programme that combines environmental education with hands-on projects. This project aims to increase the city's green infrastructure while providing educational support and resources to local schools, ensuring that students learn the importance of NBS in their immediate environment.

Municipality of Patras, Greece

The Municipality of Patras is committed to sustainable development and environmental resilience. Through their participation in NBS EduWORLD, they aim to apply their extensive experience in EU projects, particularly in water management and NBS. Patras plans to strengthen local partnerships and incorporate best practices from international partners to improve environmental education and the adoption of NBS technologies in the city. This initiative will contribute to its goal of promoting sustainable urban growth and improving the city's environmental resilience.

Working with these passionate Peripheral NBS EduSystems highlights the commitment of different organisations to promoting NBS in education. By working together, they are developing impactful resources and initiatives that promote sustainability, build urban resilience and engage local communities. NBS EduWORLD is pleased to support these efforts and facilitate the exchange of knowledge between its partners, ultimately contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.
